In 1950 Jean Prouvé designed his EM Table . The dining table is characterized by its construction, which combines industrial architecture with formal aesthetics.

In the early 50s, Prouvé developed the table EM for the prefabricated house project “Maison-Tropique”. This table, characterized by its construction down to the smallest detail, follows an aesthetic of necessity. It illustrates the course of forces and the static relationships in a way that is otherwise only known from engineering structures.

The diagonally attached, tapering legs give the EM Table a constructive dynamism and strength. A crossbar of round tubing connects the legs to create stability. The wooden tabletop contrasts the metal and makes the table look lighter. The table produced today by Vitra EM Table is emblematic of Jean Prouvé’s design philosophy, which thrives on the combination of architecture, technology and craftsmanship.
