Office chair with sewn-on cushions
The design of the Soft Pad Chair office chair from Vitra was created in 1969 by Charles & Ray Eames. In construction and form, it resembles the design of the Aluminium Chair. The sewn-on cushions create an interesting contrast to the slim aluminum profile. This makes the Soft Pad Chair softer and more lush without losing transparency and clarity.
Models EA 217 and 219
The EA 217 and EA 219 models are the office swivel chairs in the Soft Pad Group family of chairs by Charles and Ray Eames. Thanks to their prestigious appearance, they are particularly suitable for management areas. Their tilt mechanism can be adjusted to the user’s weight and, in combination with the soft upholstery, offers a high level of comfort.
The EA 219 Soft Pad Chair differs from the EA 217 in its higher backrest.
Material & Construction
The EA 217 office swivel chair sits on a five-star base with casters and is optionally available without armrests. The seat height is continuously adjustable via a gas spring. The adjustable backrest mechanism can be locked in the forwardmost position. The cover for the polyurethane foam upholstery with three sewn-on cushion units is made of leather and is available in various colors. The side profiles, the clamping bar, the armrests and the feet are made of polished die-cast aluminum (with black casters) or chrome-plated. With hard casters for carpeted floors or optional soft casters for hard floors.
